Saul Deeney: City hope to sign Magpies goalkeeper
Notts County goalkeeper Saul Deeney is to spend the next two days training with City, with a view to earning a contract at Ashton Gate.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 goalkeeper's contract has expired at Meadow Lane and he is currently on a week-to-week deal with the Magpies.
City have been allowed to take the youngster on trial this week before deciding whether to sign him permanently, which must be done before the August 31st transfer window closure.
"We're taking a look at him in training for a few days," Brian told Bristol City World today. "He will return to be on Notts County's bench on Saturday, but will be with us again next week.
"If we are impressed there is scope to sign him permanently. It's important we get good cover for Steve Phillips and Saul has a reputation as a very promising young keeper.
"He played 37 games for Notts County last season, but is now available. Stuart Naylor will work with him and we'll make a decision before the end of the month."
The City manager has been searching all summer for a second string goalkeeper following the departures of Clint Davies and Jonathan Gould at the end of last season.
